Cardinals retain La Russa's coaching staff for '09

ST. LOUIS -- Tony La Russa's coaching staff will remain intact as he enters his 14th season as St. Louis Cardinals manager.

St. Louis agreed to contracts Tuesday with first base coach Dave McKay, also heading into his 14th season with the Cardinals, third base coach Jose Oquendo (11th season), batting coach Hal McRae (fifth season), bench coach Joe Pettini (eighth season) and bullpen coach Marty Mason (10th season).

Earlier in the offseason, the Cardinals reached agreement on a new deal with pitching coach Dave Duncan (14th season).

The Cardinals also retained their scouting staff, with Mike Jorgensen and Gary LaRocque serving as major league coordinators. Marty Keough, Matt Slater, Bruce Benedict, Alan Benes, Deric McKamey, Joe Rigoli and Chuck Fick will handle pro scouting duties and Matt Carroll will continue as coordinator for baseball operations/pro scouting.
